I suppose you'd have to be amongst recent alumni or a current student to accurately refute of support the statement.
Or
maybe, they've fallen to sixth in the world in this ranking

It's possible that they'e losing out by having too many male and pale people and not enough smart foreigners. Taking only 27 black undergraduates last year doesn't seem a lot.

/// ‘Stale’ Oxford seeks gay, female and black icons ///

I wonder how one knows that it is a gay iconic painting hanging on the wall?

And will this diversity exercise help to attract more gay, female and black students?
I have no idea if the University as a whole is stale - I somehow doubt it.

Having new and more current paintings etc up is a good idea , hopefully for the less knowledgeable ( me for example) the paintings would have the person's name and position/occupation/title nearby, then could make your own mind up on whether you too deem them iconic.
I don't think the problem is attracting them. It seems more to be based around accepting them. Seems like a futile and transparent gesture to me.
well this is how you get in apparently

In my day 'GAY' held a very different meaning to what it does today.
