Last year, i put an acer in a pot but after a few leaves appeared, it withered. I left it and now there are a few leaves growing. What can i feed it to keep it going?
Yes, you coud try some slow reliese granular feed approx every 6 weeks (sparingly) pot dry out very quikly so keep the growing medium moist at all times. The Acer of cource is deciduous and naturally lose their leaves in autumn. Good Luck.
My wife has two in pots, she feeds them with an Erecasious (spelling) feed, and they are doing well, they are not evergreen, so getting buds now, is about right.
Agree with Poglet about keeping it in semi-shade but acers also hate wind, especially cold easterlies. I water mine with a multi-pupose plant/shrub food ie phostrogen or miracle grow & it has been doing well in a pot for years.
I am sorry but I have to disagree with the points made about wind and sun. I have an Acer in my front garden that gets sun all day. We also live on a fairly straight road where when it is windy it is a bit like a wind tunnel yet it never has affected the leaves or growth.. The tree has been in for about 6 years now and it getting rather large. We are seriously considering cutting it right back at some point, nor sure when though.
