Mystery Flying Girl Picture
4 Answers
I'm trying to recall a painting I saw and heard about at least 30+ years ago, although I suspect it was much older than that.
The painting was of a young woman/girl/maid (possibly carrying a pail?) flying or walking through the air above a town. I think it was something to do with a competition and clues had been hidden in the picture.
Does anyone else recall this? I'd like to be able to look it up, to prove to myself I didn't dream it!

There is another Kit Williams book called “The Bee on the Comb” or “The Book Without a Name” because the puzzle was to find the name of the book and express it without using words. Again the illustrations are online.
I've looked up about Kit Williams and books that were said to be inspired by him. Fascinating stuff thanks Woofgang, but not the picture I was looking for. I'm even more puzzled now, as Wikipedia says Kit Williams' Masquerade was the first of its type. Perhaps my memory of the walking-in-air girl picture has got muddled with a memory of a different picture to do with a treasure hunt.

Not The Ultimate Alphabet, but it was a good guess thanks!
I can visualise the picture well. The young woman dominates the picture. She is flying (but upright and without wings) towards the viewer from the top left. She's carrying something... I seem to think it might have been a milk pail. A landscape can be seen below her.
