Connecting To Hotel's Free Wifi.

The last three hotels I've stayed in have free wifi, but when trying to connect to it, the 'BT Hub' page comes up, giving instructions on how to pay for the wifi. I've been unable to close the BT Hub page down and use the free wifi, even though my computer says I'm connected to the hotel's (free) network. :o/
Please can anyone advise why this should be happening? My OH thinks I must have something set up on my computer that selects BT Hub as a default setting, but I can't find anything that mentions BT in my settings, so I am unable to delete or uninstall it. Unfortunately, neither of us are very clued up on computing.
The computer is a Samsung Netbook NC10 with Windows XP.

"Go and try in the bar...you might get a connection there".
"Just close down the BT page, that should do it".
"Sorry, as far as I know it should just connect".
None of the receptionists appeared to know why it's happening or how I can overcome it.
I can see I'm connected to the hotel's free wifi by clicking on the icon at the bottom of my screen. The hotel last night didn't even need a password to conect. It's very strange. Husband says I need a computer engineer to sort it out. :o/
