I thought of manual because I'm about to go off to work. Carnal wasn't on my mind but i suppose it could be that. I think manual is more likely though

My apologies to all of who had tried to help me but I had to abandon crosswords for the day.
The problem was that I had used "finesse" for "decorum"[another clue criss crossing the above]
I should have inserted "dignity" and then "carnal" and "deflect" worked many thanks to you all
