Hello queenie - if and when you see this post could you help me help my nephew.

He is 30 years old and has been diagnosed Type 1 diabetes, however without parental and medical guidance he seems to be floundering around still pretty sick. Parents deceased.

He was in hospital about a month ago but on leaving he was given no "after care advice".

Rather than giving him misguided advice from myself could you please tell me where he can go now.

I personally think he needs to contact Diabetic Clinic and get advice etc.

Also he told sista that he is waking up in the morning shaking vehemently - this lad also suffers from Epilepsy.

Can you also advise "good" foods for him.

Thanks for any advice.

thanks Anne
He should go to the Doctors! Surely that is common sense?
Type 1 is serious, get him to the Doctors ASAP.
Hi JJ

Sorry been at work and out this afternoon.

As many have mentioned he should either see his GP or get along to his Diabetic Clinic.

Eating sensibly is vital! Cut out all the rubbish like cakes biscuits sweeties etc. Eat a balanced diet, fruit and veg. They always told me meat, chicken, fish etc. Brown bread, brown pasta/rice. Ideally a dietician would be able to advise him on what foods to eat. Diet Drinks, No added Sugar drinks, WATER!!

His shaking could have been a hypo and or because he's been so poorly controlled it could be his body's way of saying hey hang on we've had enough here. Or as you say it could be related to his Epilepsy.

If you need any advice you could contact Diabetes UK or have a look on their webpage or you can reach me on [email protected] and I can see if I can help and get anything off my team to help you
