18d Frank's auxilliaries (6) CANDID but I don't understand the auxilliaries bit. Why?

OK. I thought I was reasonably good at grammer (1950s-60s), so I'll look it up and learn a bit more. I haven't come across them (or at least my memory doesn't recall them)
