Sky is good for phone and broadband and always seem to have deals on the go for new customers.
Their operatives are generally helpful too.

Been with BT for a few years now, had a few problems but nothing that hasn't been sorted out with an 0800 'phone call and a few minutes of 'do this do that'
sometimes complicated by an interesting accent from the other end of the line but I'm used to that and am a patient sort of guy with these types of problems. Overall am pleased with the service and back-up they provide.
No problem here with the bt mail account. I had a look on the bt tech help site and they are reporting localised problems for some areas. Not to be unexpected I think with the electrical storm some have experienced.
I've been with TalkTalk coming up to 8 years now and on the whole they have been very good. The call centres appear to be abroad and I did have trouble understanding the accent once but things usually run smoothly and price is good.
I blame Thor if it's recent problems.!!
BT is a prime example of the maxim that the one thing which communications companies can never do well is to actually communicate with their own customers!

I use a 'business' broadband service, from a company (Claranet) which provides internet facilities to some major multi-national companies (such as BAe Systems). It's not cheap but the service is outstanding.

However, since you've stated that you only get your email from BT, I can see no reason why you can't switch to using GMX:
http://www.gmx.co.uk/
It's free and you can access your mail either via their website or with an email client/app. You can also use the 'mail collector' facility to ensure that any mail sent to your old address is automatically forwarded to your new one.

I use GMX myself and I've been recommending it here for ages, with many ABers deciding to give it a go. All of the feedback I've had has been positive.

Thank you all for your answers....had to pop out to my chiropodist who works in the hottest room in the world.....had a free sauna into the bargain...so another shower calls.....

I'm calm always, NoM.......but see no reason not to take your advice and be even calmer....... ;-)

I moved to PlusNet when I decided BT wasn't going to be allowed to add to the grey hairs I can grow easily without their help.....just kept my email.....PlusNet has been perfect so far and fun to deal with when I was joining.....

I'll look at the alternatives you have recommended tonight and change..... don't want to get up in the morning and be wondering what I have done in my sleep to cause them to tell me I'm barred.......memories of the illegal site I accidentally accessed when I tried to book a Tiara making course in Portland Bill.....☻

My mail is now working......and again....thanks for your help and recommendations.....

Gx
Plusnet is a subsidiary provider wholly owned by BT!

I did know that, Nine.....but they provide a really good customer service, one problem I thought I had when I joined resulted in an engineer giving me his mobile number so I could update him..... my internet no longer crashes....and I can use my phone again.....with BT it crackled and faded....

Now I don't really mind who owns what and how they do it as long as I get a good and reliable service......and I've had that since going with PlusNet...x
