ok I have looked this up on DVLA and it does indeed say it was registered in 1958 but that format plate started in 1963 so how does this car have one? If it was imported in 1963 it still should have been given a 1958 number as they do appear to know the date of first registration. I'm usually pretty good with car reg numbers but this has got me stumped, cheers

No TTT, now there is a requirement for continuous insurance, it is no longer checked when you tax the car.

yes but in that article it says its is checked against the database, it still checks you actually are insured even though no paper work is necessary. You still need to be taxed even though there may be no cost and to get taxed you need insurance and indeed, if appropriate and MOT, all are checked on the DVLA Databases. Plod's ANPR system checks all that too.
I know you don't want to believe me TTT, but iut really is true.

There is no specific check any more at the time of taxing a car that it is insured.

The reason being that there is now a requirement for all vehicles that are not SORNed to be continuosly insured, and there are checks on this.
There is therefore no need to duplicate this check at time of taxing.

fair enough, it just said it in your first link.
Yes, I didn't choose well.
Several post 1963 plates were held back and issued to any pre 1963 vehicles requiring 're-registration'...if cars were not in use for a long period...for whatever reason they became 'deregistered' back then.
It's on page 9 by the way.

right so the original number must have been taken off in 1963, cheers TCL
