Salary Of Niece Into Aunts Account - Legal Or Not?

Hi Guys

My niece has arrived here for a summer and wants to work for 2 months before returning to Europe to Uni. She is EU citizen and will have trouble opening bank account here as she is not a resident.
I suggested her salary to be paid into my account. Recruiter says it is not legal. I cannot find any supporting law that clearly makes it illegal. Can I have some advice on this?

Providing your niece is legally able to work here she can choose to have her salary paid into whatever account she wants, although most companies would probably want the instruction in writing.

Would you draw it out and give her as cash?

The employer would have to send the salary to the Bank in the Aunt's name or there us a very good chance the it will be rejected, same as trying to pay in a third party cheque. Although legal it is probably too onerous for the employer to accommodate this into their pay system.

How does she get paid?

It is legal. I used to do payroll and often paid wages into someone elses account.

If the person is paying tax and NI no one will cares what account it's paid into.

I agree with bloo scorpo

BUT - with a joint account with as you can imagine
with Sir Bluebottle Ponsonby goodbody smythe ( erm long 'Y')

the BANK had real problems with accepting cheques for Blue Ponson
we had to sign their [the banks] own worded declaration in the end

and THEY said it wasnt legal - oh and it was the first time this had ever happened.

I think the issue is that there are certain clerks in the world who just cannot be arrissed
