Returning A Package To An Ebay Seller

I need to return some bedding that I bought on eBay, due to the fitted sheets being 4" too small in width to fit my mattress. The seller accepts returns but expects me to pay the postage, which I find reprehensible since it's his sheets that are too small. It won't be cheap sending them back either since there's a duvet cover, two fitted sheets, and two extra pillowslips.

The seller did give the size of the sheets in the description, but I took it for granted that sheets sold as 'double' would fit a double mattress. It turns out that some double mattresses are bigger than others; mine's 4' 6" wide and the sheets would fit a mattress that's only 4'0", and there can't be many 4'0" mattresses about. In any case, he gave the measurements in centimeters, which is difficult to understand and estimate.

Shall I just keep the bedding and give him negative feedback (something I've never done before to an eBay seller)?

I also have an extra deep mattress, double fitted sheets will fit but not reach down the sides and go underneath.
My son has a four foot bed and it definitely isn't described as a double. It was actually called a three quarter bed. If he said the sheets would fit a double then he is being misleading.
4' 0" is often described as small double....no escaping the fact that measurements were given..and not checked...
Its sold by Argos. Exchange in your local branch.

I've just borrowed a tape measure that measures in cm. The width of the fitted sheet - from seam to seam - is 118cm, or 46½" with the elastic stretched. That's 19cm short of what the seller claimed!
Argos is not the seller
In that case contact the seller again with your measurements. If he doesn't agree to refund the postage costs go through the eBay resolution centre
I would suggest that you made the mistake when ordering, you need to return to sender at your own expense.

"Its sold by Argos. Exchange in your local branch".

No, it's only where I picked the package up from. They don't actually sell them, as far as I know. Packaging states what the seller is claiming
Lots of eBay sellers use Click and Collect at Argos and other stores.
Hmmm, learn summat new
Lynn - go through the resolution centre and ask for a return. In the relevant box tick 'not as described' then add in the further info box 'does not fit standard double bed. This is all you need to do -Ebay will send you a link to a prepaid return label which will cost you nothing and be taken from the Sellers account whether he likes it or not.

Perhaps I should contact the seller first (what do you think?), but then again, maybe I ought to go straight to eBay Resolution Centre, just to cover my ar*e. That's a good idea, Retrochick
>And he gave the measurements in centimeters, which is being duplicit.

I always use centimetres. It's the system of measurement that's been taught in schools for years.

You even measure beds & bedding centimetres? Even your height and weight?
My nurse and GP measure and weigh me in metric - then I have to convert it.
If he gave size in centimetres he was not being duplicitous. Definitely contact seller. Don't leave a negative either as I cant see he has done anything wrong. (I have never left a negative for anyone). Someone left me one which was not deserved and I have to wait for a year for it to come off my record.
