hey i understand norton is annoying me it slowes your pc down while it scans and it costs a lot and even when it find a virus it wont dlete it you have to go on th internet and pay a boke to toell you how to delte it how lame is that

so i want to no of a better one too :-d

I'd recommend AVG as a free antivirus. There is a paid version as well, but as long as its for your own use, the free version is fine. there are regular weekly updates which you can set for it to go automatically. I had Norton on my laptop and the interaction between it & XP pevented the computer from shutting down. I now use AVG and I am virus free and the lapotop shuts down! I also use it on my home PC & that is good too.

Hello,

I would suggest AVG Free (Anti-Virus Guard).

AVG Free is completely free for non-commercial use.

AVG Free Edition has the following limitations (compared to AVG Professional Single Edition):
- AVG Free Edition cannot be installed on server operating systems (such as Windows Server 2003), nor can it be used for the scanning of network drives.
- Scheduling options in the AVG Free Edition are limited (only one scheduled update per day, one scheduled scan per day etc.).
- AVG Free Edition receives updates via a lower priority service.
- AVG Free Edition does not offer advanced testing options, such as automatic healing, password-protected archives reporting, adjustment of scan process priority.
- AVG Free Edition has no technical support.

I reccomend AVG 'free' - the local repair shop put it on for me after a virus shredded my hard drive. I've been virus-free for over two years, and I surf and e-mail a lot, so it does work.
I've tried AVG, and it's good. However, I prefer Avast. I tried this after it came out top in a PC magazine article on free antivirus programs, and I'm very pleased. Whenever you go on line it automatically updates, so you don't have that to remember.

AVG and Avast are equally good, I've used both on PCs and they are just great. But don't forget about getting a firewall. Zonealarm do a free one which is really good, and several sites recommend it.

Don't forget to prevent against spyware! Spybot search and destroy and Adaware are both good.

AVG with ZoneAlarm, Spybot and Ewido is a good combination, all free.

:)
Zonelabs Zonealarm & Avast 4
Avast is good.
Stay away from Zonelabs Zonealarm, it takes up a lot of your processing power!
Antivir is excellent, as is Zone Alarm firewall.
I vote for Avast and Zonealarm. I know it's already been recommended but I am so sad I wanted to join in anyway!
I'd also recommend changing your browser to Mozilla Firefox. Since I did I haven't had any problems with spyware. I can also recommend ZoneAlarm firewall and AVG anti-virus - both free.
Porque_Jorge - processer power...are you mental? it uses barely any compared to norton of mcaffe or how ever u spell it....the only reason it may appear to slow a pc down is if you dont have enough ram or too many startup items
