What Kind Of People Do You Hate To Be Around

We all know someone or have friends who are like emotional vampires and drain the happiness from you. What things do they do that drains you? Be interesting to know what things bother others.

Snobs - of every kind - wine snobs, food snobs, car snobs ad nauseum.

I had a been friends with someone for years, we were so close we phoned at least once a day. She became a magistrate and that's when the problem started.
Everything I did was wrong.
Oh you don't watch that to programme do you?
Oh you aren't still reading that newspaper are you.
What! You shop there!
It was constant. Back in the day when Paul Potts won the talent show, I remarked to her how good he was. She responded something like you know nothing about music or opera so you can't pass comment on it.
It got so bad one day I said to her (you think you are so much better than me don't you"
Her reply" well let's face it I mix with a far better class of people than you do, also everyone you know has not one ounce of intelligence between them"
I just said "this friendship is now at an end" and put the phone down.
That was about 11 years ago. I missed the old friend terribly but I couldn't put myself through it any more. I used to come off the phone and cry sometimes.
She died last year, I felt sorry we had broken up but felt I had no choice.

That's very sad, Caran. I had a friend a bit like that and I was glad when she moved away. We lost touch, but she has recently contacted me on FB. She has posted that she's looking for places to stay when she comes back to visit old friends. I'm staying quiet.

The ones I struggled to be free of and eventually succeeded in losing! E.G. French lady, met her when I was a newbie there - hoped she would be able to help me a bit - then she started asking me about where she could buy wood locally. She asked me to tea, then dinner, then I realised I was expected to call at least twice a week and sit with her and converse. No time, house to renovate, business to start, a society to find and discover. I kept finding French ladies who had associations which would welcome her. I got her to one. Next visit she implied very directly that they were 'peasants' and she was a 'bourgeoise'. I backed off - to many reproaches. Took me ages to extricate myself and I still feel mildly guilty - an 'Old Man of the Sea' situation. I was more at home than she was - and I was a stranger!

melv16, I'm not sure that I want to know but what exactly is your objection to an entire profession?

So many answers. Wow. Loved reading all of them. I can certainly see a common across was complaining and negativity and people who speak only of themselves. It's good to share a common interest with others and it always backs up how completely normal and common your annoyances in others are. Few funny answers like teachers haha...Melv16 I'm sure that was a joke. Guess mines is negative people, people who talk about themselves in conversation or know it alls who try to force their opinion on you.
