We went to Rudesheim today ( we are on holiday in Germany)
There is a cable car system that takes you up over the vineyards to the mountains above. There is an enormous monument to some person I hadn't heard of. Going up was superb. Coming down was something else. The whole cable car system ground to a halt with a screech.
We were left suspended on high for about 8 minutes. It was really scary. There were about a hundred of these little cars just hanging in space. There were quite a few crying. I wasn't too happy myself.
Eventually though with another screech we set off. Phew the relief that came with that.
As an aside when we got to the top I said to other half, this looks very familiar, have we been here before? Definitely not he said, I wasn't too sure.
When we got back to the apartment I looked at the logbook I keep for holidays. We had been up there before in 2013! We did a train holiday of the Rhine area.
Amazing how you forget some things.
Also neither of us are up to much walking now. I need to keep stopping for a sit down. It's either pain from arthritis or short of breath due to COPD.
OH struggles a bit now since his operation. Hurts his pride to use a stick but has no choice.
We look like a pair of matching bookends when we go out with our sticks.
I'm sure the walk was wonderful Tilly2. Did you notice if there was any automatic watering system for the vines, we tried to see but couldn't.
If not it would be a horrendous job watering all of them.
Can't say we noticed an automatic watering system, Caran. Lots of workers about though. What a difficult job, keeping the vines tended on those slopes.
Each vineyard was labelled with the name of the grape. That was interesting. Mr T kept introducing each grape variety as if it was his vineyard. :-)
