Embedding Stuff Into Ab
38 Answers
Afternoon!
We're thinking about adding a few more services to embed into the site - in the same way we do with YouTube.
What sites would you like us to try and make this possible for?
Examples would be: Flickr, Imgur, Spotify, Dictionary.com etc...
Not all will be possible, but throw some ideas out about what you'd like, and we'll try our best!
All the best,
AB Editor.

Because our system takes urls you enter, looks at them, and works out whether we can embed them or not.
We have to do this for each service/network/site as they all have different ways of presenting the video and identifying the video.
You're right there HC, that would be a good feature. I don't know if it's possible currently.

Sadly we're not able to let you upload direct from you phone, as then we'd be opening it up to hosting all sorts of imagery... Which wouldn't be ideal if someone put something naughty up.
When something is embedded from flickr for example - it's not technically hosted by AB, it's still provided by Flickr. This means we don't have the extra cost, or legal issues that come with hosting those images and video.
Hope that explains it a bit!

Slightly off topic, but thinking about rogue posts - is there some way to deal with them when the mods aren't on duty - so perhaps once they are reported they automatically get hidden until a mod is available to check, restore, or block them.
I'm just wondering as there was an obvious phishing one a few days ago for gmail passwords.

I have reservations about this.
1. Too many whistles will make the site horrible.
- Part of ABs appeal is its simplicity and uncluttered appearance
2. May cause slow page loading and even more glitches
- It's bad enough with external adverts causing problems.
3. Audio, noise, sound effects are not good on a service, especially if some autoplay.
Perhaps any media can be behid a clickable pop-out box?
