Don't think there has to be a reason for anything in fashion.

In the 1950s I can remember wearing "teddy girl" poppet bead necklace so tight, that it nearly cut off the supply of blood to the head.

I remember hearing once that the one trouser leg in sock thing started as some 'tribute' to their chav friends who were in prison or who had recently died. (Like the rapster Nelly and his plaster on his face). There also used to be some significance of the one glove to do with gang membership - and not the Michael Jackson fan club!
