The only advantage of setting up a DD for the minimum payment is that you never default. The payment will cover the interest charges and very little else. I have one in case of being hospitalised but I always make a larger payment on top. Paying just the minimum vastly increases the time it will take to pay off the debt.

I'm going away for 5 or 6 weeks later this month. I don't want to be accessing my accounts on dodgy internet cafe computers so thought to set these DDs up to pay the minimum and keep me from going into default.
I usually pay in full each month.

When you set up a DD you have three choices: the minimum amount, a fixed amount or the full amount.
