This sort of additional html code is frequently added by applications such as Hotbar. You are usually enticed to install these because they'll give you fancy backgrounds in your emails as well as extra emoticons.

If it is Hotbar you've got, it'd be good to get rid of it. Not only will it get rid of your extra code problems, but it is also spyware.
