STD Testing

My mate recently had sex with a girl, the condom broke and now he's worrying about STD's. Obviously he should be tested, but he has questions that I can't answer for him, like...should he go to his doctor OR get an appointment at a sexual health clinic, he knows his doctor personally so he's embarassed. When they test him what will they test? Urine? Saliva? Blood? All of the above? How long does it take to get results and how long should he wait since the incident to ensure a correct result? How much does it cost?

I know some women can release more than one egg but not at various times throughout the cycle. I am sure you know all about the hormone cycles involved in the menstrual cycle and the specific hormone surges required for ovulation.

Whoever it is there are many options, family planning clinic or gp.

Ring the GP and ask them what the best option is, working wise quite ofen family planning clinic.

Whoever goes should be as honest as possible, they've seen and heard it all, and they can work out the best way to help and advise.

NHS Direct (0845 46 47) or FPA (0845 310 1334) could also help as could an organisation such as the Samaritans who will probably have numbers for local clinics etc...

The HIV test looks for HIV antibodies in the blood. It normally takes three months for antibodies to develop, so if you have a test soon after possible infection, the result may be inaccurate. You'll need to be tested again after three months to get a definite result.

Anyone in the UK can have a free HIV test. The test is available from your GP or from any genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic. GUM clinics are usually found within a hospital and are completely confidential - your GP won't be informed without your consent. You can also go anonymously. A trained counsellor will explain the test procedure and discuss possible results. You normally have to wait one week for a result.

Glad you did, Jenna. This is a very serious issue.
I wish people understood that condoms do not protect 100% against anything, whether they break or not. And they should not be having sex with people they do not know are safe.

My friend was a bit worried once and I had been a bit stupid in the past so we went together at the Sexual Health Clinic in St Barts London! You do not have to pay and they do not have to contact your doctor - they tested my blood and then looked for other diseases but I am not sure how they test boys. they do not send results - basically No news is good news and that usually is a period of about two weeks after being tested. I am not sure if I have answered your question. so if i have rambled on speaking utter nonsense apologies!! I cant remember how long you should wait until the incident perhaps if you ring a STI clinic they will help you hun -
