Isis Recruits Don't Know Much About Islam...
60 Answers
... Unsurprisingly. It's fairly obvious that only the truly thick would be up joining ISIS.
//// At the height of Islamic State's drive for foot soldiers in 2013 and 2014, typical recruits included the group of Frenchmen who went bar-hopping with their recruiter back home, the recent European convert who now hesitantly describes himself as gay, and two Britons who ordered "The Koran for Dummies" and "Islam for Dummies" from Amazon to prepare for jihad abroad. ////

//// "I realized that I was in the wrong place when they began to ask me questions on these forms like 'when you die, who should we call?'" said the 32-year-old European recruit, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals. He said he thought he was joining a group to fight President Bashar Assad and help Syrians, not the Islamic State. ////
But maybe it's time we stopped associating the terror-pseudo-state with the religion? It's kind of accepting their own branding to do so anyway. Maybe we need a better way to talk about it?

I promised myself that I wouldn't read or respond to your posts anymore, but this one is short and particularly crass and I could not but read it.
This dangerous madman claims he wants to see an 'Islamic Caliphate' flag over Downing street, is that a version of "reality" you recognise?

You are all assuming because they claim it to be true that ISIS is a form of religious creed to God ( Allah). When in fact it is a break away Islamic form of Devil worship. Everything they do points directly to the evil one,the fallen Angel who it is prophesied takes up arms against The Lord God in the final battle of good against evil. Armageddon, which every indication shows is now well under way.

An important, and singularly overlooked point in these debates we all have on here.
Just because ISIS says it is Islam does not make it so - you can call an ass a horse, it doesn't shorten its ears!

Promulgating nonsense dreamed up by "prophets" of antiquity is contributing to the problem. It validates the ludicrous notion that ancient ignorant misogynists beheld ultimate truths from a supernatural being when in fact they spouted nothing more than their own prejudices.
The only argument is about which gods is the "true" god. The argument can never be reconciled because it is an irrational position based on religious faith rather than reason.
All the Abrahamic faiths share that same eagerness that Armageddon is upon us "soon" and the followers of their particular flavour of worship will prevail. Indeed there are few so sick of mind and spirit that eagerly anticipate the slaughter of all those who do not share the same beliefs.
It is primitive, stupid and destructive. Much of the trouble on this planet comes from those who so desperately want Armageddon that they actively and enthusiastically work towards it. Those who are even notionally religious or who apologise for the religious, contribute to the problem because it validates superstition.
Those who want a future for humans on this planet need to stop honouring their childhood rituals "in the sure hope of eternal life" and tell the world very loudly that we do not accept that any kind of religious belief has any validity. If a position cannot be defended rationally then it aught not be defended.

//It is the koran that determines whether people live or die as well as the terminally uneducated moronic psychopaths who do its work. //
I think that's the point of the original post - actually they don't really need to know anything about the book to join up for a fight. And the book on it's own would have to administer some sort of paper cut to have the power of life and death.

Regardless of where you live, you have no doubt seen for yourself how religion affects the lives of millions of people.
On the other hand, there are millions of people who profess no religion nor any belief in a god. They are atheists. Others, agnostics, believe that God is unknown and probably unknowable. However, that obviously does not mean that they are people without principles or ethics, any more than professing a religion means that one does have them. However, if one accepts religion as being “devotion to some principle; strict fidelity or faithfulness; conscientiousness; pious affection or attachment,” then most people, including atheists and agnostics, do have some form of religious devotion in their lives.
So who sets the rules? Man or God?

One doesn't accept that.
