Fuerteventura Or Gran Canaria
My wife and I are considering spending a quiet holiday in the Canary Islands.
We rather fancy either Gran Canaria or Fuerteventura but we understand some of the islands can be somewhat windy (which we hate). Can anyone recommend a sunny, warm and less windy resort on either of these islands. or indeed any other island in October.

There is a certain type of wind (I can't remember the name) that makes it impossible to go out. It brings sand from Africa and makes breathing very difficult for anyone with lung conditions. We have stopped going to the Canaries because of this.

I've remembered - it's called the calima.

You'd have to be a bit lucky to find Majorca and Menorca warm in October plus a lot of Menorca at least shuts down in October. I've been to Gran Canaria twice and Tenerife once in the autumn months and don't recall being bothered much by wind but isn't Fuerteventura famous for strong winds, after all that's what its name means?
prevailing winds are from the north east - you can see them here

I went to Fuerteventura last year and stayed in Caleta de Fuste in the east. I don't remember it being particularly windy, however that was in July - I don't know what it's like in October. By contrast, I went to Porto Santo the year before in June, which is a small island just off Madeira, and I remember that definitely being windy.
The only time I have been to the Canary Islands was when I got a cheap package (about 20 years ago) to Fuerteventura. When we circled the airport ready to land, I looked out of the window and decided that I wanted to go home. The place looked horrible and it was horrible when we landed as well. Try Cyprus - a lovely island and the weather is OK ish in October.
