Without the orchestrated "outrage", would anyone have noticed and thought Oh, that's a character from Roots? In being "offended" they have created yet another opportunity for those on opposing sides of the argument. I'm reminded of Peter Wright's awful book Spycatcher, without the free publicity it would have sunk without trace. Who sang You say it best when you say nothing at all?
