OH was put on new medication Friday, Sunday started seizures, phoned for ambulance, cardiac arrest in ambulance, seizures continued throughout Monday and Tuesday, been in ICU since, aspirated into lungs, been on ventilator since, when they remove oxygen, saturation levels reach critical levels, hospital won't give guarantees, I understand that, but realistically what are the chances please. Thanks, was going to put TIA but somehow didn't feel right x

Traci, I certainly can't answer your query but I understand you wanting answers and reassurance.

I feel you just have to wait and be ready, so hard for you. x
For what underlying medical condition is he being treated.
I presume he has a tracheostomy and when they try and decannulate him (take out his tracheostomy tube), he can't cope.
The prognosis depends upon what underlying condition he has, his age and his general condition.
My opinion....if he cannot manage without his ventilator, which seems to be the case, his prognosis (outlook) is poor.
thats awful
I am so sorry this has happened Tracy
the doctors are being rightly cautious

the overall death rate in adult ITUs when I last looked was 30%
which is one in three
the younger the better

bad few days coming up Traci
sorry for this
fingers crossed for you.....
happens on AB I am afraid Traci

one terrible and one not that bad ......
you can see why your OH doctors are being cagey
With out knowing his medical history and why he went into seizures it is impossible to say.
A difficult time for you both, sorry I can offer no more assistance than a friendly hug ((Traci)) & best wishes for a speedy & comfortable recovery for your OH.

I hope he makes a good recovery.

No tracheotomy just intubated, medical conditions, enlarged heart, stents in place, seizures caused by medication, pneumonia caused by aspirating, lungs collapsed. I will say staff have been great, just need to know really, and I can handle it, but they won't/ can't say,
Well, if the fight is to go on, he will need a tracheostomy............this may have it's added complications.

Good luck....my prognostication remains the same.

Thank you Sqad, I suspected this, but at last an honest answer.
Question Author
Quick update, tracheotomy performed yesterday, still quite heavily sedated as coughing loads and becoming quite distressed during sedation hold. New antibiotics started for pneumonia, at least brain scan came back normal. Another problem is, not medically related, we have had an offer on our house which I know he would accept, whilst I can accept the offer, how do I go on if I can't get his signature if the sale goes through.
wishing you both the best for a good outcome...xx

tell Estate Agent what's happening..there is bound to be a provision for emergencies
Can't offer any medical advice sorry but agree with Murray about speaking to estate agents and explaining the situation.

Sending a ((hug))
Question Author
Thanks I will speak to the estate agent, let them know, they know he is in hospital, but nothing else.
