Hello all,

I use MS outlook to download emails (as you do) however, at the moment when i go to the log on screen at startup (windows XP) it says i have 91 unread emails.

When i check outlook, there are no unread emails. Can anyone explain this, and more importantly, how can I get rid of the unread mail message (especially when there are no unread messages)

Cheers in advance

Can you expand your inbox?

With my version of Outlook the spam got put in a spam folder which only appeared after the expansion.

I have checked the junk folder, and there is nothing else in any of my sub folders. I'm stumped by it.

I guess its a good excuse to change to Firefox etc

Switching to Firefox won't fix this, though switching to firefox is a good move!

If you click on the 91 Unread Emails on your login screen, it will tell you which account they're associated with. If it isn't your Outlook, it's unlikely to be your Outlook Express (since you probably set it up). I reckon it's your MSN Messenger that is associated with a Hotmail address that's filling up with spam. If you double click the Messenger icon and click on the little envelope (that probably has 91 written beside it!), it'll open up your account where you can delete all the mails.
That was supposed to be "since you probably DIDN'T set it up"!
Go to the Web Page of your Internet Service Provider. Use the Web Mail Option to look at your Inbox there. Your Inbox should be kept to a reasonable size anyway so in Outlook Express create a folder called OLD INBOX and move everything over then delete or see if you need to keep them. In my experience there will be 91 unread emails somewhere marked in bold type.
make sure your emails are sorted by date.
my thoughts are exactly along ralph's thoughts too. use msn messenger? check the mail in that account.
