Because of your help on 30d, I was able to solve 30A and 34A.
I had LE?A?U. Thanks for Le Fanu. Never heard of that writer.
So A becomes the extra letter in Leaf.

Both, letters outside the grid and extra letters start with across clues first and then down clues. Correct?

Glad I could help. The extra letters, spelling out the three thematic words, are in clue order - so Across and then Down. The letters outside the grid works slightly differently I think. (I hope I haven't confused you!)

I still have some work to do.
My extra letters do not spell out anything yet.
I have missing extra letter for 21A and I am not sure if 32D falls in extra letter category or letter outside category.
I have 7 extra letters from across and 8 from down. So one is missing.
32 D may provide the missing extra letter.

I will review after trying Listener which I find very tough.
