That old cross dresser Danny La Rue did the definative 'On Mother Kellys Doorstep', but other people have covered it
If by "cross dresser" (sic) you are referring to the fact he wore womens outfits in his act then it should be crossdresser...all one word....of course maybe he was unhappy when he was getting attired....further to that the proper title whould be drag act......he was a Transvestite.

Anyway to answer the question.....The song was written by George A. Stevens in 1925 two years before Mr La Rue was born, so he no doubt grew up hearing it in Co. Cork where it quickly became a favourite Irish song done by many artists of the day. Danny reached number 33 in December 1968 with it....you can find it on a number of compilation cd's incluing this one... http://www.dannylarue.com/album/
