I am stuck on one clue in this month's puzzle. It is 17 across. "Real things , as opposed to attributes". I have e?t?a and the only word that I can think of is extra. But that does not seem to fit the definition. I know that the man who sets these puzzles knows lots of odd words and spellings but this one really has defeateme. Does anyone know a possible alternative or a definition of extra which fits please?

First, an apology for the delay in replying. Ancient mother needing long conversation ( gladly joined in) followed by a period of exhaustion. But now, with brandy to hand, I can say thank you. Completely new word to me and I doubt I would have found it even with my dictionaries. As I said, he can certainly stretch one's word awareness!
