Fascia Boards Should Be White...

In-laws have a bungalow on the edge of Dartmoor and it faces a bit of weather. The fascias and guttering are starting to grow green patches which need to be cleaned. The guttering and fascia have been there some time.

1. At what point do you say enough is enough and replace the guttering?

2. The fascia boards are looking like they've seen their best - is it best to get them replaced or would it be a good idea to clean them and paint them? What process would you follow...

Interested to see what everyone would do on this one please :)

(btw, I don't think they can stretch to having them replaced so any "home maintenance" methods are preferential)

1. Guttering. If there's no chance of replacement, and it's still doing its job (no leaks, brackets securely fixed), I would clean it and leave it. You don't say what the guttering is made of.
2. Fascias. If they can't be replaced, and they are in good condition, I would have them capped with plastic, after cleaning and painting.

It's all plastic and it should be white.

It's just as simple & less work to clean them Zeb, you can paint plastic but you need to scare it first, too much messing about.

I've never painted plastic fascias, just cleaned them, so I can't recommend anything. You might like to have a look at this:

For goodness sake don't even think of painting plastic gutters and/or fascias. Does a bit of green really matter? Whatever you do they're not going to rot so why not save time and energy?
