I have about 5-6 "bags for life" which I keep in the car and use them every time I go shopping.....simples !

If I buy ten to fifteen pounds for shopping, am I really going to not pay 10p to get my shopping to the car easily?

All the major supermarkets sell these really strong and long-lasting "bags for life"

I have a Tescos one that is at least 5 years old. If and when it does break, all I have to do is to pop into my nearest Tesco and they will replace it free of charge. I think it cost about 50p....a bargain !

I certainly wouldn't pay 5p for one of those flimsy, one-use ones, as it would be a waste of money in the long run.

Just common sense to me !

Shocking news as the extra price for a new carrier bags encourages people to avoid using new carrier bags, which is exactly what the 5p charge was designed to achieve.

Mikey...I get my shopping delivered. The rest is mainly done in my corner shop where there is no charge for bags.

Ummm....I tried this armchair shopping, with Tesco a couple of years ago. It wasn't a great success, as I like to choose things myself, especially meat and fruit and veg. I suppose its OK for large bulky, non-perishable items.

I use the larger green bags from Asda. I've got loads of them.

i was juggling shopping earlier as i bought more than i intended but i refuse to add another bag to the ones i already have

Yes...I only buy a small amount of veg/salad/fruit as I find it often gets wasted. I buy household and anything that I can bung in the freezer. I'm lucky to have a greengrocer less than a 10 min walk away.

I have umpteen bags for life that I forget and leave in the car thus infuriating me all the more. I don't think the back seat can carry many more without collapsing under the strain. Buying more bags every time defeats the excuse for making them non-chargable, and showing it is more about extracting more cash. And one needs to buy bags anyway if you want to line waste bins so that's no help. It's just yet another stress added to make life more difficult. May as well just survive on bread and marge as one can carry that without needing something to carry it in.

Slightly off the subject, I remember as a young recruit being on the beat with a senior constable who purchased fish and chips for his supper.Before he could finish them an inspector came into view,and where did this officer put his fish and chips? Under his helmet.I often wonder if the inspector noticed the sweat pouring down his face.

It always amazes me when i see people struggling to carry shopping to their Mercs and BMW's etc ; all for the sake of spending 20p on four carrier bags .

I try to avoid buying the bags because they are no use for anything else, and I don't like the thought that we're accumulating a pile of them at home that will never be used as bin bags, etc

Luckily our local supermarket does plastic bag recycling, which means every few months any left over get given a (hopefully) ethical burial
