I need some large lightweight suitcases, that will not break when thrown about at the airport. What make would you suggest? Help please!

the lightest ones are IT, but the lighter they are the more fragile they'll be. You need to strike a balance, but you can really only do that by trying them out and seeing what suits you personally.

Also, the larger they get the more the weight is really the contents rather than the case.

As Pongoparrot says, Samson are a good brand and solid (I believe they still offer lifetime guarantees), but not cheap.

I have used an Antler for years and it is excellent.
Samsonite or Delsey will withstand years of constant use
Primark do some which are extremely light and extremely cheap, but not outstandingly robust. ( Actually cheaper than several I have seen in street-markets) Still, if a suitcase gets damaged after a few trips, you could replace it without too much pain. Or you could go in for wrapping the case in miles of cling film, a service which is offered at some airports.
No matter what case you bye Smurf, you can not guarantee the case will withstand the hammer at the Baggage handlers.
I found Antler to be a bit deer.
