Choppy Video Playback!
9 Answers
I have just installed a new monitor on my desktop PC, it seems to have automatically sorted out resolution ("1920X1080 recommended") but now I'm finding that some of my videos are choppy and occasionally break up and stop.
OS/System:
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) Service pack 1
AMD Athlon 2x4 640 processor 3GHz
16GB RAM
Graphics card: ASUS HD6770 DirectCU
Monitor: Packard Bell Viseo 230 WS 23" LCD
Surely this system should run pretty smoothly, though a bit dated I think it's fairly high spec.
TIA for any advice.

I've installed DivX and it works perfectly with the videos that were acting up. It didn't take over as my default player as I feared it might, spams me with a couple of adverts but that's ok, it was free after all.
Thanks :-)

Belated thanks for your reply, AP.
As I suspected (and CAC's advice has confirmed), the problem was related to your video player.
Don't give up on VLC though. A few simple tweaks can often fix the problem. Google offers loads of suggestions, such as this

(I've deliberately opted not to embed that video here, as doing so wouldn't show you all of the other videos available on the subject in the panel on the right of that page. The solution to your problem should be there somewhere!)

Great, thanks for that Chris. I'll try those tweaks (apart from lowering the resolution) I'm keeping VLC as my default player, it's been much better than anything else just does what it should without complication.
In the meantime I'm right clicking troublesome video files and using "open with" and selecting DivX just for those ones. I was worried that all my music and video files might end up having DivX icons, but only a few have.
