Have just got a new Acer V13 laptop and my problem is that I use a mouse and the mouse transmitter is getting too hot to touch after a while using it!
I looked at my manual and it gave no instructions which of the 2 usb ports to use.
I have just noticed that one has a blue 'lip' and is a 3.0? usb for use with charging phones etc and the other is a normal 2.0? usb with a black lip.
I had the mouse transmitter in the 'blue' usb port when it was hot and have now changed to the other 'black' port. It now seems to be ok and not heating up!
Nothing in manual about this. Am I to assume I should not use the ;blue' port for the mouse and do I therefore use the 'blue' port for dongles and printer cables etc - as there are only 2 usb ports on this laptop.
Normally USB 3 ports are backward compatible. That is to say that a USB 2 item will work quite safely in a USB 3 port. Perhaps you should contact Acer and enquire if there could be a fault on the laptop. The following is a clickable link to the Acer site :- http://acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/service-contact Hans.
Receive an answer from Acer but it was far from helpful. They said that the same amount of power is generated from both usb ports and that they are interchangeable. However, when I use the transmitter in the usb 2.0 port it is completely cool!
Despite what they say there is an option to u the 3.0 port to charge phones etc when the laptop is completely switched off. I will never use this option as I do not use my laptop away from home.
As a test I disabled this option and tried the transmitter again in this port and it was ok!!
I will leave this now as I am happy with the outcome.
Thanks everyone
