Drop Scones

A long time ago, I once went to tea in a vicarage and the lady made delicious 'drop scones' on the stove as we sat around the table and ate them with butter and jam.
I asked her where she got the formula from and she surprised me by saying it was from a children's book - it might have been Winnie the Pooh, can anyone confirm this or know the reference, please?

Oh I don't know about that - my nana used to make them for me 35 years ago and my mother 30 years before that.

Its a lovely story though.

Having a quick look at scones started life in Scotland and the originals were cooked on a griddle, so maybe start of the drop scone?

The scones we know today were started in 1800's as a sweet treat in the afternoon.

Similar to pancake batter, only thicker. We call them scottish pancakes.

Thanks for that Pigletion, it looks like a nice book, and it has got glowing customer reviews - a bit pricey though, but it might make a splendid present.
Can I get the mixture/recipe without buying the book, I wonder.

It's more than a story Islay. The book does indeed provide a workable recipe for drop scones according to the online discussions I've read.

Khandro, have a look on ebay as there is at least one second-hand copy of the available costing far less than Pigletion's link.
