Meccano, Hornby, Etc - Where's Best To Sell These ????
12 Answers
Are there any dedicated sites for selling collectables, such as Meccano and Hornby??
A family friend has gone into a care home. We're clearing her house out and we've come across some Meccano sets and Hornby trains and train tracks.
We also have 3 teddy bears (no labels) that we know are at least 50 years old, prob quite a bit older.
I don't fancy trying Ebay, as I don't think they'd reach their true potential on there.
Does anyone know of anywhere that we could try, to maximise the dosh that we could get for her??
Ta muchly :)

You will have to pay quite a few fees, insurances, etc, if you use an auctioneer, but at least you will know that you will be getting the best possible price. And you will get rid of the stuff promptly.

If you start dealing with a small shop, your market will be very limited. Properly listed on ebay your have the biggest shop window on the planet along with people who do nothing else but deal in Mecanno. Cant imagine why you would think it wont reach it's true value.
A couple of years ago I cleared a loft, most of the contents were from the 50/60s.. amongst it I found a small box of broken scalextric cars, not one of them had 4 wheels. They were in pieces. I took some HD pictures and listed them. 3 bidders got carried away and I got £100 for some junk.
Do a bit of research and see what Mecanno and Hornby goes for ...
I think you will re-consider.

With over 25 million users worldwide you can't beat ebay.
Both Meccano and Hornby sell well on eBay, I have sold both and got good bids within hours. But then I do have a 788 100% positive feedback that helps a lot.
As said you get 20 free listings per month so put your items up with a 'Buy it now' price or a minimum bid price that suits the item, if it sells you have made cash if not you have lost nothing.
