Cheap plants - Gardening newbie
4 Answers
Looking for some experienced gardeners' advice on what types of plant to buy for my garden. Something low-maintenance for a very sunny spot (south facing, so sunny all day and evening). I've no idea about soil types but we live in Glasgow and it looks a bit... I don't know. Clayish? :-S Looking for anything affordable and hardy... I just don't have a clue!

have had the best advice from crocus at my leisure with no pushy sales assistants!

Have you considered a wildlife friendly garden? You might consider sowing a mixture of native flowers to attract insects like the rather endangered bumblebees and butterflies; these in turn bring in the also endangered birds and bats that are great to see.
These are very low maintenance - some mixtures include grasses so that you can have your own meadow. I did this recently and was really pleased with the results - a beautiful display of flowers and I feel smug that I'm 'doing my bit' for conservation too!
