Thanks but no nearer. The only lifeboat callouts I know are a 'shout', SOS, Mayday or the old CDQ.

28. Sadly means an anagram of 'I must cry he' and this singer is a member of this group. Any pointers on 43?

Thanks Elliemay1. Finished now. 97 is a green member of the brassica family that you would buy from the greengrocers. It also has an archaic meaning 'to steal'.

43. It's a distress signal although you might know it more as a colour. According to Chambers another meaning is 'fugitive slave'.

94. Is the name of an actual biographer. Look up a list of them and you'll find what you need in the first section A-G.

13. butter does not refer to the spread - cryptic way of referring to a certain animal.
