I have some video footage I want put on a disc. I've got no problem burning to a DVD and then playing the disc on a computer, but I want to be able to put the disc in a DVD player and watch on a TV and at the moment, every time I try I get a message displayed on the TV 'unrecognised disc'.

What am I doing wrong? Does the recording have to be in a specific file format?

Any guidance or links to useful articles would be appreciated....before I run out of discs.

You need a DVD authoring tool. This one is free: http://www.dvdstyler.org/en/

Thanks TheChair, I'll give that a try.

One article I had read and tried said that, but suggested MS Windows Media Player would do it. Clearly not.

Brill, works a treat. Even added a slideshow
For your own education, now that you've created a disc which works, "explore" it and see how different the format is from the disc you created by just copying.
Please be careful when installing free software. Sometimes they can include adware (that's why they are free). Normally this would not be a problem if there is an 'opt-out' option but this can be very obscure or not available. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVDStyler
