Fruit Flies

We are inundated. How do I get rid of the blighters? They seem immune to fly spray - unless I manage to drown them.
We've never had this problem beore.

Is it just in one room? We once found an old piece of fruit dropped under a some furniture was causing the problem.

put a small dish of wine nearby that will catch them

Was just the kitchen. Now spread upstairs and into sitting-room.
I've discovered they like wine, but not sure I could afford the many bottles it would take to eliminate this many For Funks Sake.
