At about 4.00pm, I had a horrible aura migraine which lasted for about twenty minutes. As a result, I felt nauseous and debilitated. I now have an painful neck and shoulders. I feel strangely disorientated and odd.

Usually, when it happens to me, I resort to the sofa and sleep but if I do that now, I won't be able to sleep when I go to bed.

Will ibuprofen help?

Do you have any Migraleve tablets?
Why not set an alarm for a half hour or maybe an hour's sleep, and go to bed a bit later than usual, later on ?
Ibuprofen may help. I'm lucky in that if I catch my migraine quickly I can stop it before it really takes hold. I just take extra strength paracetamol.
Ibuprofen will help...at least 400mgs in one dose.
Thinking about it, it may be better if you just go for a lie down in the dark too. Would it matter if you fell asleep, you may not wake up until the morning

I had a little nap, OG and feel a little bit better although slightly woozy and headachey. I'll take some ibuprofen later, when I go to bed. Ugggh!

Thank you all, for your helpful suggestions.
When I get an aura migraine,I find immediately taking some sort of dispersable pain relief really helps...Aspirin, paracetamol, Anadin all help. Then my head isn't quite so thumpy. Sometimes just a 10-15 min doze helps too.
I quite often get an aura migraine whilst racing about at work. Usually if I have been pushing a trolley of stock then had to race the length of the store to serve someone . I often have one eye obliterated with zigzags and have to squint at the till screen. It usually subsides after two paracetamol. Just have to get on with the job til it goes.

I feel much better this morning. Those migraine attacks are awful. Thankfully, I don't get them very often. Next time, I will take something right away rather than letting it get a grip.

Thanks again for your helpful advice.
I heard a really good explanation on the radio about migraines by a female doctor some years ago. Apparently your digestion stops during a migraine, any food in your stomach stays there and it may want to eject it. That's that's why you feel sick or have the runs. It's also the reason why taking pain killers don't work once it's kicked in, they simply don't get absorbed. Thankfully I don't have as many since I was put on a preventative (atenolol). Pleased you feel better Tilly, migraine 'hangovers' are horrendous too.
Sqad did point out that you should take something straightaway, in your thread of the same name at the bottom of the page. The pain in the neck is probably Sqad trying to hammer his message home.

Thanks, Jno. I am grateful for that.

'Fri 21st Mar 2014' was the last time I had one and I had forgotten that I'd posted about it. I don't get them often, as you can see, but they are very unpleasant when they occur and do stop one thinking 'straight'.

Thanks again.

Thank you, too, Robinia. That is worth remembering for next time. The nausea will help me to remember. :-)
