Rape or not?
I can't believe all the hype over this scene which has had many people annoyed and up in arms about the storyline even before it was screened! What do you all think? .... It just made this nearly 70 year old say "Wow! - if only!!" and made Ross my hero even more!! ;)

It just made me angry for Demelza! So glad she clouted him. Now gone off Ross and liking Dwight better (almost 70 too!)

Very true, and Demelza is so much more attractive. I must admit it made me angry and it's only fiction!!

I agree - I was meaning the actual sight of Ross not the storyline of him cheating on Demelza especially with Elizabeth who is not half as attractive as his wife! I was annoyed with him over that!

No I meant that a lot of people classed that scene as rape - I didn't think it was that at all, Elizabeth was begging for it in my opinion as she still loves Ross (and he knows it) and she obviously enjoyed it as she looked really smug in the morning (but who wouldn't?) Haha ..... dream on!

In the book it is rape, the BBC did not want women to lose interest in Ross so they have 'sexed' up the rape scene - seems to have worked, but it is still rape!

I thought the scene was excellently done, and far better than the silly episode in the seventies version, when Ross and Elizabeth tried to elope and were thwarted by a riot in the village.

Both characters still have longings for one another and Elizabeth has already crossed a line by agreeing to marry George. There was no rape and the scene in the book is carefully worded. They were stirring up old broth and Elizabeth was overwhelmed but not forced.

This has endless repercussions in years to come, but I doubt the BBC will be able to follow the story right through to the end. (Right up to the Battle of Waterloo)

May I add my plug for the books.....?

Do please read all of them, the background stories re the mining and the Napoleonic wars are fascinating.

And yes, good for you Demelza.....punching him to the ground.....not in the book but believable !

Completely agree Barbara. Scene was very well thought out (and acted)
Now watch the "anti" brigade be upset at the sight of husband battering! ;)

Definitely not rape. She was not forced. So if you say no 3 times and then obviously respond like she did, is that now classed as rape! Ridiculous!
