How to persuade OH to have a hearing test?

All the common traits - TV too loud, I'm accused of mumbling, irritability if I point out how many times he's misunderstood something, a reliance on TV subtitles, yet an absolute denial that his hearing is less than perfect. If I try to go anywhere near the subject he shouts and swears.

Can you think of a new tactic for me?

My friend was forced to accept that she might need a hearing aid when she got a letter from the council telling her that her neighbours had complained about the volume of her telly! So you could try warning him that 'officialdom' might be on his back soon!

A better solution though might be for YOU to take an online hearing test and then invite/challenge him to do the same. This one is approved by the NHS:

Thanks for the link, I will definitely try the online test and see if I can involve him in it. Good idea.

Thankfully the neighbours aren't within earshot, so no one is going to be bothered by the TV but me!
You might need a bit of reverse psychology here Maydup.
Speak to him by just miming the words and not made any noise, or speak really softly, so he has to ask you what you said? Worth a try!!
It would seem to me that if your husband is this unreasonable, than it isn't just his hearing that is a problem !
Write down each of his mishearings and show him how funny they are. My OH and my dad have both finally accepted they are a bit deaf after I told them things like mishearing "What kind is it?" [about a bat] for "What time is it?".

My Wife accused me of hearing loss, I accused her of mumbling and facing the other direction when talking.

I went and had a hearing test, without telling her. When I was shown the results I gave them her[i email address and asked them to send them.

[i]I won] ;-)

If he wants to prove you mumble there is one easy way to do it.

Maybe he is nervous about the results he may receive.

Thanks all. I'll try the online test, and I'll try speaking a little softer as I have been making allowances.

I might just go for a hearing test myself and see if he will join me. I have tinitus and I'd genuinely like to see if its affecting my hearing. Although I know very well that the TV is too loud!

Leave him alone.

It will mean a hearing aid and men are a little vain.

He will go when he is ready.
But it's annoying having the TV so loud and having to shout at people. My uncle is deaf and now wears a hearing aid. The difference is amazing.
Here in the Nile what?

For anyone interested in an online hearing test, this is the same test as the one mentioned above, but it gives the result on screen at the end rather than by email. Now to get OH interetsed! Maybe one day!

He might just need his ears syringed...
I thought it might be blocked ears and two aids later found it so much better to be able to converse without struggling.
