I hear people having them removed with no problems, so are they useless?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I don't think I'd consider us all starting out as female, IMO we all start out as a standard default that can develop to be female or male, and the coding for that kicks in later, when the ddetails are sorted. Strangely the default happens to include nipples (for mammals) which had we been designed rather than evolved, wouldn't be the case.

The appendix in humans is certainly not vestigial.
Herbivorous origin of humans.......naaah!
Although the function is unknown for certainty, on histological grounds, there is little doubt that it plays a part in the immune system of the gut.
Could it play a role in ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease or dare i say it bowel cancer?
