Ebay - question asked from another abayer...

I have put an item on ebay to sell (auction). The starting bid is at �1.00 and has �1.20 postage, I have not added the "buy now" option. I received a messge from another ebay asking if I would accept �6.50 inc P&P via paypal.

Im happy with thid amount, but what do you suggest I do? Ask him to place a bid knowing that he may lose it if someone bids higher, or shall I add the "buy now" option at �5.30, so that he can buy the item straight away? Is this the norm? I buy alot on ebay but have only ever sold one other item

Help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, I didn't need to search your threads; it is a thread in which I also participated and recall your answer. The thread was not to clarify the eBay issue but rather the morality issue.

eBay isn't a shop, it is an auction site. "Shop" rules are not "auction" rules. The rules of the site are well documented and easily referenced.

To "pledge allegiance" means to "promise fidelity" i.e. follow the rules "in good faith" which in this case are the Terms and Conditions to which you must agree when signing up to eBay. So you do in fact have to "pledge allegiance" to the site much as you "pledge allegiance" within any contract.

To accept a price by email outside of the eBay bidding system is a breach of the rules.

Just because it may be, in your view, a "small" rule doesn't make it unimportant. If it was unimportant it would not be a part of the Ts & Cs.

Morally, there is no distinction in the size of an infraction, only that one exists. I agree that the issue in question is not a scam, however by definition it is a scheme i.e. deceitful circumvention of the rules.

but whatever, i see no big issue with spaced selling his belongings this way, i understand what you are saying, but i don't see it as any big deal, so we will just have to agree to disagree here :o)
