Does anyone know what this is, and if it's safe to eat? There are quite a few growing in my garden.
It's a very sandy and windy area, if that helps.

I hope the link works. I don't use tinypic very often.

I've looked in my fungi book and it looks very similar to an ivory clitocybe, which is deadly poisonous....

Well...... I wouldn't. I've always be told that you should NEVER eat anything unless you are 100% sure about what it is.
I used to use used mushroom compost on my garden as a mulch, and we had a wonderful crop of mushrooms, but they really looked like mushrooms, and this one doesn't, to me anyway.

ok, thanks, hellywelly. I wouldn't eat it if I didn't know what it was, but I used used to go picking mushrooms with my dad.
This one looks like a mushroom, but not one I've seen before.
Perhaps worth getting a guy in who knows about fungi to take a look.
I am not sure about this one, but there is nothing better than fresh mushrooms from a field for breakfast !

Have you had a look at clitopilus prunulus also known as The Miller.
I had to look back to September 2015 Royal Botanical Garden calendar to check out a hospital date and there was this mushroom as a picture heading.
It looks similar, but I wouldn't like to try it.

Thanks to melv and ponkle for your replies. Sorry I didn't come back to the thread for a while.

I think it's probably the one you mentioned, melv. I won't be trying it. Better keep the dog away from it if it's still there when we have her.
