how much do MP's get paid, do they get expenses paid like travel etc ?

The basic salary for MPs is �60,675 p.a. (They get more if they serve on Select Committees or if they hold ministerial posts). Some MPs also get a 'London allowance' of �2,812 p.a.

MPs receive an additional �90,505 p.a. to enable them to employ staff.

There's also a �10,000 p.a.'communications allowance', �21,339 p.a. 'incidental expenses provision' and �23,083 'additional costs allowance'.

All travel, while on Parliamentary business in the UK, is paid for. (If they use a car, they get 40p per mile up to 10,000 miles and 25p per mile thereafter). 'Official' travel within Europe is also paid for, up to a maximum of 3 journeys per year.

Dual mandate Members receive a full parliamentary salary plus a reduced salary of one-third of the full rate in respect of their membership of the other assembly. The reduced rates are currently:

National Assembly for Wales - �15,397

Ministers are also entitled to a supplement for holding their higher position. There are many different rates for the different Offices but here are a few examples:

think I should become an mp after all a boss will look at me funny if I ask even 20p per mile to travel to work not to mention time to travel......
