Is there anything I can take for this, rather than go to doctor? I feel fine, no temperature, just had a bad cold and chesty cough lasted three weeks, thought I was on the mend earlier this week, but cough has come back, still a bit chesty. No other symptoms, I just feel a bit sleepy .. i dont feel ill at all. Had a really bad virus in April and doc gave me antibiotics as something was wrong with the blood results, so I dont want more antibiotics. Just wondered if I could clear this chesty cough up.

I'd go back to the doctors, if it was me. But you must do what you feel is best for you.

Sounds viral to me and these coughs can last up to six weeks......so, give it another fortnight and if it is no better, see your GP.

Sorry, I didn't answer your question..........NO, nothing effective.
Just sympathy from me, smurf. I have had the same thing but the cough was making me sick, and I couldn't walk more than 3 steps without being out of breath. The GP gave me steroids which actually did help, but it has come back again- head cold which will doubtless be in my lungs in 2 days. I've been hoarse for 3 weeks now and really wish I had my voice back!
