What are these "walking boots" say that Sandy Roe used for walking. My friend had a pair many years and while they looked very heavy, ugly and uncomfortable she said they were comfortable for walking. Thanks

Walking boots are essentially sturdy, well cushioned footwear. They have a thick, rugged sole on outside and are often made of waterproof, breathable fabric like Gore-Tex. Some have additional ankle support. The aim is for them to be functional and comfortable for walking a long way and often on wet/muddy/rocky /uneven terrain.

They are not heavy these days and are usually very comfortable due to the padding and breathable materials. No more hot, sweaty feet
Agreed, mine are not heavy and the soles are lovely to walk on - probably my most comfortable pair of shoes.
My Brasher boots are the most comfortable shoes I own, the thing is to go to a specialist shop where they fit them to you and have you walking up and down a slope to ensure you have the right amount of room. A good shop will also let you take them back after a couple of weeks as long as you have only been wearing them round the house. This gives you a much better idea of their comfort.
I use Meindl boots as every day wear and on the few occasions when I have to wear regular shoes I find them uncomfortable. It is worth spending a bit extra to get the better ones.

thanks for your answers - they do look so ugly and uncomfortable. May get a pair for walking Maxie as the ones I wear are definitely walking shoes or boots - but I would try and hide them with my trouser legs.
I agree.....they shouldn't be heavy at all these days. When I look back at my first walking boots, over 40 years ago, today's are nothing like it at all.

Perhaps Sandy can come on and tel us the details of his pair.
