Staples Brand To Disappear From Uk High Streets

Another well-known name disappears. I can't say I am much surprised. The last time I went into my local Staples, it was a bloody mess.....piles of stuff everwhere......very untidy. It looked like a Poundshop.

I don't think that their products are competitive on price , with other companies .

Last time i was in staples , i was looking for printer cartridges - their prices were higher than Tescos, for the same brand .

While we are on the subject - i can't see how Rymans have survived on the high street - their prices are way higher than others

Bazile....off-hand I can't really think of anything that I would need to go to Staples for these days. If I need ink cartridges, I use Ebay. Printer paper is cheaper in ASDA or Tesco, how many computer chairs does none need in a life time.

To me, Staples has the look of Woolworth's, as it was just be fore the fall.

I buy stuff in Staples I can't easily get elsewhere. Specialist shops tend not to be cheap.

I can't remember the last time I went into a Staples store.....probably in Croydon about 11-12 years ago when living in Mitcham Surrey.

The sad demise of the High Street stores strikes again......the sad thing is that it won't be the last........I still miss Woolies, as used to get my weekly fix of Pick 'N' Mix from there.

Get all my stationary supplies etc online and delivered.

I have a gift voucher for W H Smith's , given to me by my work colleagues for my birthday , years ago .

I saw a 'vintage fountain pen' in my local charity shop for £1.50 so I bought it. Turned out to be a Mabie Todd 'Eyedropper' with a 14c Gold nib.
I put it on eBay and sold it for £45.

Quite. But what else would you have gone to Woolies for? Answer: next to nothing except perhaps a CD or DVD. And there was their problem. They didn’t really know what it was they were pitching for. Sadly but inevitably the UK High Street is dying on its feet. Online shopping has taken a huge chunk of the market and shops need to compete by doing what the internet does not – providing an agreeable environment and decent customer service. Many shops do neither. Their staff often could not care whether their customers live or die and many shops – as Mikey explains – are a shambles. No wonder people sit at home and order stuff to be delivered to their door. The internet is not killing the High Street – it has been dying for years and the internet is doing the humane thing by putting it out of its misery.

You make an interesting and valid point, New Judge.

I just find it a shame that stores like Woolworths and more recently, BHS, have closed down and gone from the High Street as they were part of my childhood, that my parents would take us in there to buy chocolates or a CD or a shirt or socks or a toy etc......it was special to go shopping as a family, as my wife and I did when our four children were growing up.......special days....we occasionally still go with our15 year old daughter, if she needs help choosing something and doesn't go with her friends......if the internet is winning, why is it I couldn't move in most Brighton shops today?
I hope that generations to come get the pleasure, and experience of High Street shopping and it doesn't disappear altogether.

It's been a lot longer than 24 months .
I did look at the terms and conditions the last time i came across it and noted that there was no expiry date
