Pickled and unopened should be fine: Peter O'Toole lasted bloody ages didn't he.
this is true, they're probably in better condition than i am
Pickled and unopened. Sounds like the alcoholic spinster who died at the age of 99.
I dont even compromise quality for the sake of a few pence, if it out of "use by" or "sell by" I bin it, sometimes I will let thing go over by a day, then its binned.

Saying that, generally we eat things before they go out of date, we dont waste much at all.

Well they were consumed 3 and a half hours ago and all appears well!
Thanks for the replies
What about tins? Cleared out my brother's flat and he had lots of tinned potatoes, soup, custard etc all out of date by up to a few years - I have got them in my cupboard now but reluctant to open any - is there likely to be a problem?
I used up some beef cubes with use buy date of 2010, and there's nothing wrong with moo!!
Wouldn't have bothered me, it's only oats.
People are paranoid about these dates. If it smells and tastes ok then it is.
