I have an amazon parrot who is now 8 years old, I have had her since she was 5 months old. She is very tame. Most times she sees strangers she shouts hello and tries to climb on their shoulders. The problem I have is she is seriously jealous! Whenever my phone rings she starts to scream or if a friend or relative pops in she hates me talking to them, so yet again she screams! the only way to stop her doing it is by keeping her on my shoulder and including her in everything! Does anybody have any ideas how to stop her doing this! I've tried ignoring her.. but she just gets louder. When its just her and me she is a real sweetie, singing and chatting away. She gone really naughty lately, she bites my husband them runs away laughing! (Serious problem)

This is quite normal for most pets in general, when you do things such as you said they know its the time they are least likely to get attention.

Well theres the problem but i'm not really sure what to do about it.

Would it help trying to play a radio with human voices near to her cage, or would that only make matters worse. Actually I rather envy you. She sounds as if she's a very companiable pet but I can see her jealousy could be a bit of a problem. I suppose getting a mate for her is out of the question?

Thank you james and wendy for your replies.

I do leave the radio on sometimes for her when I'm out, most often she has the television on, I have even taped 4 hours of her favourite programmes... Tele Tubbies, Tweenies etc. But if I'm home and have company she just screams louder than the programmes!

I haven't really got the room for another parrot, I think though she would probably be even more jealous! She has a little group of "toys" by her cage ..if I pick these up she shouts.... cause their hers!

But any other ideas would be welcolme!

I wonder if there's anywhere you could get a CD recording of parrots? Am not sure where you start to look unless the RSPB website could provide a lead, but this might keep her quiet- at least until she figures it out???

Thanks wendy for the idea of a CD I think that would be worth looking into. Tonight I told her if she didnt shut up while we had dinner she would be covered up! She decided to scream... so she got covered! she actually did go quiet.. I will have to keep doing this every time she starts.. maybe she will realize screaming means darkness and eventually stop.......... SOME HOPE LOL!
